Understanding sexual self

I THINK the most frightening and difficult thing is not a matter of accepting who you are, but it is often the matter of not knowing how to become the person you are meant to be. Anybody cannot gain peace until they make peace with themselves. And I guess doing so begins by owning our stories and stripping our delusion of loving but in truth is hating ourselves.

Last, November 15, 2019, I was invited by Prof. Jay Javellana Balan of the University of Southeastern Philippines at Obrero Davao City to share about the sexual self that includes sexual self-esteem, depression, and obsession to aid them to have appropriate and healthy decisions in their sexual behaviors. And so, I started the talk by sharing on their need to understand and define themselves, how they perceive others, and how they see the world because only then can people freely express themselves sexually.

I strongly believe that if young minds will be educated to understand what the consequences of premarital sex are without trying to reprimand and pressure them, then transformation will be easier. Studies have even shown that children need to learn what they most need to know about sex at home and even in school, without becoming anxious or uncomfortable.

Moreover, it is true that not only premarital sex truly hurts young people. Sometimes, it is also their misguided decisions against this need of attention and love. Usually, when people are confused and sad, it opens the door to many invites. Invites sadness. Invites low self-esteem. Invites premarital sex.

So, parents, friends, teachers, and others must not only educate them about sex but also must provide unconditional love as well. Young people are mostly curious, and they may commit mistakes hard to accept. Hence, to achieve a healthy sexual life - it should be done at the right time. And only then that one can develop full sexuality if they are accepted and loved despite their inadequacies, darkness, and failures.
