Provincial library launches Tech4ED center

THE Negros Occidental Provincial Library launched Monday, November 18, its Tech4ED Center in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology that primarily aims to provide e-government and ICT-enabled services particularly for those who have minimal or no access to information and government services.

Governer Bong Lacson said that while the onslaught of digital age is very apparent, truth remains that not everyone has access to modern technology and the libraries remain to be their viable option for learning and gathering of information.

“The specialized programs of the Tech4Ed for those in need of skills training for the IT-BPM industry, for the out-of-school youth, for the unemployed, small entrepreneurs, women, farmers and fisherfolks, will be a big boost for their empowerment and development,” he added.

DICT - Negros Occidental was represented by Engr. Romeo Tome who gave the project overview.

The Tech4ED or Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development Project evolved from the Philippine Community eCenter Program, a national digital inclusion initiative; it will enable the people to have access to skills training for employment, get online work and online courses, wider market reach to entrepreneurs, as well as save time and money on job search.

Also present in the activity were Provincial Librarian Rio Lynne Panisa, SP Provincial Secretary Maki Angel Ascalon, Cresile Lozano of DICT - Negros Occ., and Danny Clark Uguil of DepEd Negros Occ. Division Office, among others. (PR)
