Bacolod gets student officials for a week

AS PART of the annual Boys and Girls Week Celebration of the Rotary Club of Bacolod, City Hall officials as well as department and office heads have counterpart high school student officials in running the affairs of the city from November 18 to 22.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia has Girl Mayor Sheris Angel Casurao of Negros Occidental High School; while Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran has Girl Vice Mayor Danica Lactaoen of Bacolod City National High School, as counterparts.

The student counterparts of the city council members are:

Katherine Zaragosa – St. Scholastica’s Academy Bacolod

All department and office heads have counterpart student officials, too.

This year’s set of high school student leaders was inducted by City Assessor Atty. Maphilindo Polvora, who is the OIC- Mayor while Leonardia is on official travel, during the flag-raising ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday, November 18.

Polvora told the student leaders: “The future is bright since you are in it. When we say that the future lies in the hands of the young men and women of this age, we mean that through your collaborative efforts with one another, a new age can be brought upon: a new age of innovation, development, enlightenment, and of course, peace and progress.”

Councilor Israel Salanga also gave an inspirational message to the student leaders. City Hall executive assistants, department and office heads, and employees witnessed the induction ceremony.

The Rotary Club of Bacolod has been celebrating the Boys and Girls Week for 51 years now. It is an annual activity of the Rotary Club where public and private secondary schools send their own “cream of the crop” to the club for selection as student officials.

This year, about 140 students from 32 public and private secondary schools in Bacolod were either elected or appointed to their respective positions as Boy and Girl officials. (PR)
