Garbage trucks delivered last week cannot be used for lack of papers

THE 21 new garbage compactor trucks cannot be deployed out on the streets a week after these were turned over to the Cebu City Government.

June Maratas, head of the Department of General Services, said they have yet to receive the garbage trucks’ certificates of registration (CRs) and their official receipts (ORs) from Hino Philippines, the service provider.

The garbage trucks are temporarily parked at the City’s motor pool located at the South Road Properties. The trucks will remain there until the service provider secures their CRs and ORs from the Land Transportation Office 7.

Maratas said he has sent word to Hino Philippines about the problem. He said the garbage trucks might have been registered in Metro Manila since it was the Hino central office that won the bidding.

He said the newly purchased trucks need to be out on the streets collecting garbage in the barangays, especially at night.

Mayor Edgardo Labella earlier said the Department of Public Services headed by Joel Biton no longer had any reason not to collect garbage. The arrival of the new garbage trucks brought the total to 32 garbage trucks that the City Government has.

The P232-million purchase was made during the administration of former mayor Tomas Osmeña. (PAC, MVG)
