Formentera takes on undefeated Kawaura in Japan

CEBUANO pug Joy Joy Formentera is in for a tough assignment as he takes on unbeaten Japanese prospect Ryusei Kawaura in an eight-rounder at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday Nov. 20, 2019.

The 25-year-old Formentera hopes to continue his win streak with over Kawaura.

Formentera has won his last three bouts, stopping Lobert Bayo, Crison Omayao and Prince Andrew Laurio.

Kawaura, 25, already has wins over Filipinos Renoel Pael and Marjun Pantilgan. His last win was a unanimous decision over Pael on May 14, 2019.

Formentera, who now trains at the ALA Gym, is 11-3 with seven knockouts, while Kawaura is 6-0 with four knockouts.

On the other hand, hard-hitting Marco Demecillo suffered another defeat overseas after losing to unbeaten Indonesian prospect Ongen Saknosiwi in an International Boxing Association (IBA) featherweight title fight at the Jatim Park in Batu, Indonesia.

Demecillo was outclassed by Saknosiwi via a convincing unanimous decision.

All three judges saw Saknosiwi ahead with scores of 116-112, 118-110 and 119-112.

Demecillo suffered his second straight loss overseas after a unanimous decision defeat to Mark Urvanov in Russia on July 13, 2019.

The 29-year-old Demecillo, who trains at the RWS Boxing Gym under the tutelage of Fernando Ocon, dropped to 24-9-1 with 19 knockouts.

Saknosiwi, on the other hand, went the distance for the first time in his career and improved to 8-0 card with seven knockouts. (EKA)
