FOR the month of October this year, the traffic agency in Mandaue City recorded 480 road traffic incidents.

The report released by the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) shows that 915 vehicles were involved in the incidents. Of the number, 344 were private four-wheel vehicles, 304 motorcycles, 117 heavy goods vehicles, 54 public utility jeepneys, 45 taxis, 22 public utility vans, 15 tricycles, seven bicycles, six public utility buses and one private bus.

According to the Team’s statistics prepared by Arien Monterona, 70 vehicles broke down last October—48 heavy goods vehicles, 11 private vehicles, nine jeepneys, one public utility bus and one private bus.

There were seven cyclists and 20 pedestrians who got hit by vehicles.

Monterona, Team sustainability coordinator, shared the 15 areas in Mandaue City with the most number of road incidents: Highway Seno, MC Briones St., Ouano Ave., AS Fortuna St., a stretch of road near Pacific Mall, United Nations Ave., A. Soriano St., AC Cortes Ave., DM Cortes St., H. Abellana St., and some parts of barangays Maguikay, Paknaan, Tipolo, Tabok and Subangdaku.

The peak hours of the vehicular accidents were 9 a.m and 3 p.m., while the time with least vehicular accidents was 4 a.m.

Monterona said the Team wants to continue its statistics on traffic until it can get a yearly comparative data.

“We can make strong policies using all the data,” he said. (KFD)
