Capitol has new site for global institute

“FINALLY, we found an appropriate area.”

This was stressed Tuesday, November 19, by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson as he disclosed that there is already a new site for the impending development of the Negros First Global Institute of Technology (NFGIT).

Formerly the Negros Occidental Language and Information Center (NOLITC) in Bacolod City, the provincial government-run center will be constructed in Talisay City.

Lacson said it will not be in the first area near the city’s oval where the groundbreaking for the P135-million project was held earlier this year.

The city government, he said, really wants to support its sports program and that area is very vital for their sports development.

“The new site is a very appropriate,” Lacson said, adding that it will also be a science area for Talisay City.

It can be recalled that the students and staff of Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School have opposed for the development of the global institute at the previous area where they hold their sports and other school activities.

The governor said he wanted a win-win solution where both parties are happy.

Talisay said they want to push for their sports development program and that oval is crucial, Lacson said.

“So they can have their sports and we still have a very appropriate area for NOLITC,” he stressed.

The province’s top official also said that the new area will be obtained by the government through a land donation.

Though he refused yet to disclose the donor, Lacson said it will be a 2.5-hectare lot along the road leading to the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

“What is important now is we can already survey the area, proceed with the land donation and then we can start the project,” he said.

The formal land donation will be in first quarter of next year.

Moreover, Lacson said the city government of Talisay has committed for the improvement of the road network connecting to the new area.

It committed to help improve the area, which will also host academic facilities like that of the La Consolacion College and Technological University of the Philippines, he added.
