Capitol to use energy fund for tourism projects

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano said the revenue share of the provincial government from the different power firms in the province is intended for the construction of the Botanical and Tourism Complex in Claveria town and projects for the different villages.

This came after Emano signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the six power generating companies in the province namely: FDC Misamis, STEAG State Power Inc., Minergy Power Corporation, Mindanao Energy System Inc., King Energy Generation Inc., and Kirahon Solar Energy Corporation.

The MOA will enable the capitol to have direct access to financial benefits from the power companies being the host province.

Under the Energy Resolutions (ER) 1-94 of the Department of Energy (DOE), the community hosting the energy resource and/or energy generating facility is entitled to a revenue share of one-centavo per kilowatt-hour of the total electricity sales.

Emano said the revenue share of the capitol will be used for the construction of the Agricultural Botanical and Tourism Complex. This would replace the Cebu Pacific Flight 387 Shrine in Claveria town.

The capitol’s top official hopes the construction will commence soon, as he considered this as another attraction of the province to draw local and foreign tourists.

Emano also said villages will also benefit from the revenue share as he vowed to deliver more infrastructure projects.

Provincial Treasurer Roland Violon said the collection of the revenue share will now start so it can be used for the different programs.

“Thank you for coming and investing here in Misamis Oriental. We assure you that funds we collected will not be put in waste,” Violon said.
