THIRTEEN agri-tourism booths and landscapes in Benguet province adorned with locally grown products officially opened to the public on November 18.
As part of the annual celebration of this year’s Adivay Festival, the agri-tourism fair nestled at the Benguet Sports Center seeks to recognize the services, innovations, indigenous farming and organic products in the different towns of the province.
Booths of every town will be judged according to the originality and creativity of the booth, product presentation, over-all visual impact of the booth, cleanliness and orderliness and customer service.
Each booth requires every municipality to display all products that is born and locally grown in the town that is properly packed, labeled and identified.
For the best in landscape, any form is allowed and must be in conformation with this year’s theme: “For a Healthier Benguet”.
All materials were provided by the towns themselves while landscape must be maintained all throughout the agri-tourism fair from November 18 to 22.
The 13 landscapes will be judge from its general design and composition, quality and quantity, creativity and sustainability, relevance to the theme.
For the first mascot competition, a total of 10 towns signified their interest with Bakun showcasing sweet peas, carp for Bokod, carrot for Buguias, cauliflower for Kabayan, bell pepper for Kapangan, Arabica coffee for Kibungan, strawberry for La Trinidad, Sablan’s pineapple, Tuba’s ava, and Tublay will promote organic farming.
Use of recycled materials is an advantage while raw materials such as vegetables, fruits available maybe used.
The design for the mascot must portray the best town’s agri-product or commodity.
Winners for best in mascot will be awarded on November 24 with prizes ranging from P9,000 to P20,000 for best in mascot, P15,000 to P30,000 for best in landscaping and the best agri-tourism booth with prizes from P20,000 to P60,000.
Agriculture in the province serves as one of the main economic driver and home of the two biggest vegetable trading areas namely Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trade Center and La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post both located at the Benguet capital town of La Trinidad.
