Task force formed to help water-less villages

RESIDENTS of Cebu City’s urban barangays who are affected by the water shortage can look forward to some temporary relief soon.

Mayor Edgardo Labella created the Task Force Patubig, which will cater to urban barangays that have not been getting water from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

Labella sent the City Government’s four water tankers, one tanker each from Barangays Sambag II and Sta. Cruz and the water tanker trucks of MCWD to deliver water to 12 urban villages.

The mayor also plans to borrow the water tanker truck of Barangay Sto. Niño and has tapped Mactan Rock Industries Inc., which has pledged to provide potable water to the affected residents.

The task force will cater to residents of Barangays T. Padilla, Day-as, Lorega San Miguel, Camputhaw, Capitol Site, Sambag I, Sambag II, Carreta, Tejero, Luz, Zapatera and Sta. Cruz in the north district.

It will also deliver water to Barangay Guadalupe in the south district.

The members of the Task Force Patubig include the Quick Response Team of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO), General Services Office, Department of Public Services and the barangay fire volunteers.

Labella said the task force will continue to supply water to the urban barangays until the City can come up with long-term solutions to the water shortage problem.

“This is a form of emergency measure while we are still waiting for the final outcome on how we could really give and provide a steady supply of potable water to our constituents in view of the MCWD crisis situation,” he said.

On Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2019, the mayor will meet with the Cebu City Water Advisory Board, CCDRRMO and the acting general manager of MCWD to discuss long-term solutions to the water crisis. (PAC, LRC)
