THE concreting of 66 kilometers of provincial roads in 47 sections spread across the seven districts in Cebu is set to start within the week.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, signed the contract of agreement with 15 contractors for the road improvement and concreting works.

“We expect mobilization to start already this week, except for some areas that we had to clarify first with the Department of Public Works and Highways because they are extending to some road sections that are no longer part of the national road but may have been covered by their convergence with the Department of Transportation,” Garcia said on Monday, Nov. 18.

The projects have a total cost of P700 million and these will take an average of 85 calendar days to finish.

The contracts of agreement and notices of award were issued to B.L. Pangan Construction, April Rose Enterprises and Builders, Dinah Jane Construction and Supply, YBK Construction, First Builders and Developers, Helm Construction and Supply, and Jo Builders.

Other contractors include Circle Z Ventures and Development Corp., P.B. Obial Construction, First Grandeur Builders, Quirante Construction, AR Adlawan Construction, Celedio Construction Builders, Rovilla Construction and WTG Construction and Development Corp.

Of the 47 contracts, 13 were awarded to Quirante Construction, which will facilitate the concreting works for road sections in the towns of Alegria, Aloguinsan, Argao, Boljoon, Consolacion, Cordova, Dalaguete, Oslob, Sibonga, and the cities of Carcar and Naga.

The governor said the road concreting projects are under the P1.38 billion supplemental budget (SB), which was approved on Aug. 5, 2019. The biggest slice of the SB went to the construction, improvement and rehabilitation program for roads and bridges at P800 million.

Once approved, the proposed P12 billion annual budget for 2020 will also cover road improvement projects.

The Capitol’s economic services for 2020 would focus on infrastructure projects. With P3.98 billion, economic services cover 33.19 percent of next year’s proposed budget.

The infrastructure projects covered by the proposed budget include concreting works for 250 kilometers of provincial thoroughfares and 100 kilometers of barangay roads, among others. (RTF)
