P180,000 ‘shabu’ seized in Barangay Estefania

AN ESTIMATED P180,000 worth of suspected “shabu” or methamphetamine hydrochloride was seized in a drug bust conducted by operatives of Police station 2 at Corner 1st Road, Sofia Gonzaga Street, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City Tuesday evening, November 19.

The operation also led to the arrest of Joseph Benignos, 31, of East Homes 3, Barangay Estefania.

Police Major Sherlock Gabana, chief of Police Station 2, said Benignos was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a police undercover at the Savemore Parking Area at Corner 1st Road, Sofia Gonzaga Street at about 9:15 p.m.

Police recovered from Benignos’ possession four elongated and one big sachets of shabu, the P1,000 marked money, and Ford Ranger vehicle.

Gabana said Benignos was identified as street level target in Bacolod City. He was under surveillance for almost a month before his arrest.

The suspect is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 2 and facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, a drug suspect was also arrested by Bacolod City Police Office Intelligence Field Operatives at Phase 5, Barangay Handumanan in Bacolod City Monday evening.

Arrested was Orville Mendoza, 50, of Purok Datiles, Barangay Handumanan.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, said Mendoza was arrested by virtue of arrest warrant for violation of sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165 at about 8:15 p.m.

The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Ana Celeste Bernad of Regional Trial Court Branch 44 in Bacolod City with no bail recommended.

The suspect is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 10. (MAP)
