DICT installs free public wifi in LTO

TO RESPOND to the government’s thrust to ease bureaucratic and business processes, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Visayas established a free public WiFi site at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7.

DICT Assistant Secretary Felino Castro V said the WiFi site will help LTO clients complete the registration process and licenses of their vehicles.

“This is our contribution to improve the ease on doing business. That is also the intention of the free public internet access in public places. We call it free services because it is faster connectivity for all,”

Castro said.

He said the free internet will be crucial in the government’s campaign in relation to Republic Act 11032 or Ease on Doing Business.

“We provide these services for us to have more responsive government services to contribute to the Anti Red Tape Act which is also empowering the public,” Castro said.

LTO 7 Regional Director Victor Caindec said this would benefit the public especially those who will be staying in the Malasakit Lounge and will complement the services of the agency.

“We want to make sure that people are comfortable while dealing with the government. We, at LTO, are not just here to provide efficient services but also letting people believe that change can happen for the better,” he said.

DICT Visayas Regional Director Leo Cipriano Urbiztondo Jr. said they launched the WiFi site to help clients in the LTO.

“So that the people will know and LTO 7 clients will be informed too of the services being offered by the National Government,” he said.

The DICT Visayas Cluster 2 recently launched WiFi sites in the Ramos Public Market and the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and several tourist spots in the city.

The DICT’s Free Wifi for All is the agency’s digital empowerment program that connects Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao through free Wifi connectivity.

There are already 130 live WiFi sites DICT has established last year in Cebu as part of the P30 million Pipol Konek

project.

The project has P1.4 billion total appropriated budget for the whole country.

The agency targets to launch 200,000 more WiFi sites under the Duterte administration.
