1st Infantry Division activates sniper unit

THE First Infantry Division of the Philippine Army has activated a sniper company to boost the fighting capability of its operating units in this part of the country.

Activated in a ceremony Wednesday, November 20, at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Zamboanga del Sur is 11th Division Sniper Company (DSC), which comprises of five officers and 63 enlisted personnel, who are sniper-qualified and rifle experts.

Brigadier General Bagnus Gaerlan, Army’s 1st Infantry Division acting commander, said the 11th DSC as a highly specialized force multiplier that will provide sniping capability to the command’s Infantry Battalions.

Gaerlan said the 11th DSC is also capable to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance operation to the supported units.

He assured full support on the operational and administrative needs of the unit for the accomplishment of the assigned tasks.

He challenged the members of the 11th DSC “to train more and work with dedication and pride.” (SunStar Zamboanga)
