Chacapna: Magalong Boys vs City High coaches (part one)

Half Naked

IGNORED concerns wind up strategies—the countless ways to play or measure man’s wit and integrity. Yet for the keen observer, watching basketful like the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is exciting when several obvious strategies are employed, as if you are the one taking the shots.

However, if you have not played that game at the gymnasium for a while, like more than a year; it surely springs concern. Worst if players in other sports too are in ad libitum as to what directions will sports program lead, considering the whole city audiences expectations of victories in local and national sports? These can be noticed in every public school especially at Baguio City National High School for several apparent reasons and it is somewhat worthwhile, when these reasons are well expose.

Looking at how busy Mayor Benjie in his job like: senate hearings, dismantling illegal structures, filing cases for the murder of trees, reviving session road or building parking lots ; perhaps it is better if he rests in the meantime. It seems he doesn’t choose whether he performs minor or major job and disclosing more problems to him frankly or humorously right now might be a bad idea.

But since he is friendly, he might care about because I intend to hit one bird with two stones. So I texted him to come at city high and play basketball at the school’s gymnasium with all of his best players at city hall competed against the best coaches of city high. I thought he took it as a joke. But it wasn’t. He called out the city administrator—his alter ego, and then instructed him to visit the school’s gymnasium to take a picture of the basketball court. Maybe, to beat the home court advantage, he needed to study the battleground first, where he can possibly make the three points shot.

But before that, he asked me to dare the school authorities first, for a warm up play. Of which I texted back: the principal and heads including the people at the division office up to the region don’t know how to play basketball or rather don’t comprehend what basketball really means. The only basketball they know, I’m sure is the basketball being played at nighttime using two balls. Fine and lovely, if played between a man and a woman, I said. Else, if played by the same sexes, the world’s mind can be stressed and the gods surely spin their heads in the grave. I don’t know if he will laugh at this reply.

But by the way, in compliance to the “hataw” program of the government, the mayor can set up two teams: the below forties and above forties. Because, looking at how the younger age plays basketball; it certainly means physical prowess or bull play. It is different when played above forties, you feel remorseful or humbled when your opponent cannot shoot. So you’d rather make it comical and light hearted by saying: old man I’ll not guard, take your free shot, but you owe me beer shots, after the game.

With this entire initial story, my boundless concern now is that, what if the city administrator cannot find the basketball court equipped with that one point seven million worth of comfort room as expected? Or there is no court to speak of at the premier public high school of the City. So how will the mayor take his three points shot or even the free throws? Now, I will count the days till he comes or when the courtyard opens, while singing Que Sera Sera, whatever will be, will be. To be continued...
