Bacolod evacuation center almost complete

THE construction of the Bacolod Evacuation Center in Abada-Escay Relocation Site at Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City is already more than 95 percent complete.

This was stressed by Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya Friday, November 22, adding that the construction of the evacuation center is now at the final stage and it will be turned over to the city government.

“This is the first evacuation center in Bacolod City which was funded by the national government,” he said.

He added the construction of the evacuation center amounting to P36 million was funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office in Western Visayas.

Gasataya noted that the 1,000-square meter evacuation center was constructed in the government-owned lot in Barangay Vista Alegre.

He said the facility is intended only for residents of Bacolod, especially those affected by typhoon and fire, but if there is a calamity or emergency from nearby cities and municipalities, the area is also open to accommodate them.

The lawmaker said the evacuation center will be managed by the city government.

“We’re also eyeing another one evacuation center for Bacolod and we’re still finalizing the details including the site,” he added.

Gasataya said the evacuation center is a big help for the people of Bacolod. (MAP)
