Detailed engineering for BRT project ‘to be finished in mid-2020’

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) is finalizing the locations of bus stops, terminals and depot sites for the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Cebu City.

Once these will be finalized and completed, the government will start buying affected lots, said DOTr Undersecretary Mark de Leon.

Bus stops locations and depot sites should be strategically identified, adding that the BRT will have its own feeder lines, he said.

He said the detailed engineering design for the BRT project is also ongoing. It is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2020, he said.

De Leon said the delay was caused by procurement issues.

“The only concern is the procurement of the depot sites,” he said, adding that they have avoided areas with road right-of-way restrictions.

The P16-billion BRT project is 39.88 kilometers long, including the length of the feeder lines which extend to Talisay City.

There will be three feeder stations: Talamban to IT Park, Talisay to Mambaling and Talisay to the South Road Properties (SRP).

The main route of the BRT is from the SRP to the I.T. Park in Barangay Lahug. JJL
