WOODPUSHERS Japeth Aaron Caresosa and Irish Yngayo bagged gold medals for their respective units in the recently-concluded Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet 2019 held at the Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School.

Both also booked tickets to the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2019 slated February 24 to 29 on Montevista, Compostela Valley.

Caresosa of Unit 6 earned four points to win the secondary boys standard chess title over 3.5 scorers Wesley Jovan Magbanua of Unit 5 and Precillano Alago, Jr. of Unit 4 who settled for the silver and bronze, respectively.

However, Caresosa pocketed the silver in secondary boys blitz chess event. Fellow four pointer Kian Geverola of Unit 2 defeated him via superior tiebreaks (15.5-15) to secure the gold. The bronze went to Magbanua.

Unit 5’s Yngayo, for her part, ruled the secondary girls standard chess by tallying 4.5 points over four-pointers Blanche Ellyz Bongato of Unit 6 and Roselle Vienne Guevara of Unit 5.

Yngayo, who is studying at the University of Mindanao (UM), said, “Happy kaayo ko wa jud ko magdahum nga masulod (I’m so happy I made it to the Davraa team).”

She’s glad that though the recent earthquakes affected her Dcaa Meet 2019 training preparations, she still pulled off with the feat.

“Wala jud ko nag-expect Ma’am kay wala jud ko naka-training ahead of time kay tungod sa sigeg linog, di ko kalakaw kaayo ug balay (I really didn’t expect to win since I was not able to train due to the earthquakes, I could not leave the house as often as I used to),” she told Sun.Star Davao in a Facebook Messenger interview.

The Palarong Pambansa veteran also clinched a blitz silver as Bongato of Unit 6, who scored perfect five points, annexed the gold. Michaela Sumaylo of Unit 5 salvaged the bronze.

Ruth F. Literatus of Unit 3 also shared the spotlight by sweeping the elementary girls standard and blitz golds while Aaron Aton of Unit 3 topped the elementary boys blitz event and Andrei Ainsley Dolorosa of Unit 1 captured the elementary boys standard gold.
