Leyte village chief nabbed in drug bust

POLICE arrested a village chief in Abuyog, Leyte in a drug bust on Sunday, November 24.

The suspect was identified as Beinvinido Tijano, 43, chairman of Barangay Bahay in Abuyog.

Tijano is considered by the police as a high-value target.

He was arrested in a drug bust around 8:05 a.m., Sunday, in Barangay Bito by the joint elements from Leyte Provincial Police Office, led by Captain Luis Hatton, and Abuyog Municipal Police, led by Captain Antonio Angcay Jr.

Operatives was able to buy one sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” from Tijano.

Also seized from Tijano were five sachets of suspected shabu, drug bust money amounting to P1,550, and one cellular phone.

The village chairman will face charges in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (SunStar Philippines)
