Sheba FC sweeps Girls 15, 17 titles

SHEBA FC’s consistent play paid huge dividends as it swept the Girls 15 and 17 divisions of the 8th SunStar Football Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019.

Sheba FC won all its matches in Girls 15 division to finish first with nine points and win the trophy in the league-type event.

Sheba FC blanked Juan Tikis, 6-0; Balamban FC, 2-0; and Carabell FC, 1-0, for the gold medal with Jelena Loren Igancio Soon winning the MVP.

Carabell FC got second place with six points.

It was a much closer contest in the Girls 17 division, which also used the league format, as both Sheba FC and St. Theresa’s College finished with five points each and a similar goal difference of two. They also had the same number of goals scored at two, forcing a shootout to break the tie.

Sheba FC won the shootout, 3-2, and Misch Castañares was named the MVP.

Earlier in the day, Merlion FC took home the Players Under 11 title with a 1-0 win over Giuseppe FC. Nathan Tabon got the MVP award and a savings account worth P1,000 courtesy of Sun Savings Bank.

Merlion FC outlasted Don Bosco Technical College A, 2-1, in the semis and also beat Kamagayan FC, 2-1, in the quarterfinal.

In the Boys 17 division, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu outlasted Cebu International School (CIS), 1-0, to win the title with Christopher Ozawa getting the MVP.

Ateneo ousted Abelana National School, 1-0, in the semis, while CIS beat Giuseppe FC. (ML)
