Warning up vs 'mystic' Vassula Ryden

THE Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) called on all dioceses and archdioceses in the country to strictly adhere to the ban against self-proclaimed mystic, Vassula Ryden.

In a letter released on November 18, CBCP president Archbishop Romulo Valles reminded bishops and archbishops that they should not provide any opportunity in their dioceses for the dissemination of Ryden’s pronouncements to the faithful.

“We should be extremely careful and also pastorally charitable to our people who are attracted to the teachings of Vassula Ryden,” Valles said.

He said he issued the advisory as some seminars and other activities are being held in the country in a bid to spread Ryden’s teachings to Catholics.

The CBCP president said the warning means that the “notification” made against Ryden during the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1995 remains in effect.

Valles also said the ban is in accordance with the Vatican's statements and warning to Catholics against Vassula Ryden.

Ryden was born to Greek parents living in Egypt in 1942 and claimed to receive messages from Jesus and Mary.

In 2011, the Greek Orthodox Church disapproved Ryden’s teachings while the Church of Cypress did the same in 2012. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
