CARS, space rockets and now, pickup trucks. Tesla’s continually pushing the envelope on what they can do. Their autonomous cars are a success, if you ask me. So much so that there have been lots of haters against these electric vehicles. These incidents of animosity against Tesla cars and their charging stations are well-documented and are easily searchable online.

Anyway, as I was saying. They’re now getting into the pickup truck space with the Cybertruck. And knowing that pickup trucks are the best selling vehicles in the USA, this could very well be another stirring of the proverbial pot by Tesla. But that’s another matter to talk about and is not really tech-related.

But before we get into what I think about the Cybertruck, here’s Tesla’s intro video for it.

First of all, no, I was not at the Tesla event. I wish I was though. Second, that is one mean looking pickup truck that’s totally unexpected design-wise. I’d agree with the thought that the Cybertruck’s looks almost come straight out of a futuristic, post-apocalyptic movie. Blade Runner, anyone? This is not a sexy pickup truck. It doesn’t have curves. It doesn’t have bulges in the fenders. It doesn’t have round shapes somewhere just like any other pickup truck that’s already out in the market today.

The Cybertruck from where I sit and from what I’ve seen so far is as angular as you can get. It looks to me like it’s made up of differently sized triangles put together in some manner and ending up with the Cybertruck. It’s edged. It’s sharp. It’s almost like a hulking wedge cutting through the air as it travels down the road.

Spec-wise, the numbers are impressive. Battery range is rated from 250+ miles (about 402km) all the way up to 500+ miles (about 805km). We can go around the spec sheet but it’s better that you check it out at the Cybertruck website. And as reservations recently hit 146,000 according to Elon Musk’s tweet, it looks like the Cybertruck is headed for success.

As it stands right now that what they presented to the media recently is just a prototype vehicle, a proof of concept, there’s a lot more that can still happen between now and when it starts production in late 2021. So far, though, I’m liking what I see. If the Cybertruck will perform as advertised when full production units roll out into the hands of real customers, it’s going to be a game-changer. I think it will change the game when it comes to getting a utility vehicle that can do lots of things -- go off-road, pull and carry heavy cargo all the while not guzzling on fossil fuel and helping reduce your carbon footprint while still being to go around.

The Cybertruck is basically your Tesla Model 3 or Model S and was told to go work out like crazy and ended up as a hulking vehicle.
