290 road violators fall in 'one time, big time' ops

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Western Visayas has apprehended at least 290 road violators during the "One time, big time" operation last Friday, November 22.

LTO-Western Visayas spokesperson Riza Otayde said the operation was conducted nationwide, adding that it went beyond the numbers they were initially expecting.

Otayde said it is possible that the data will further increase in the coming days, as there were some checkpoints being conducted without LTO officials.

Most of the violators apprehended were motorcycle drivers who were either driving without a license or have not yet registered their vehicles.

It was noted that several sports utility vehicle drivers and public utility jeepneys (PUJs) were flagged down due to not having or not using their seat belts.

During last week’s operation, several cane trucks were also apprehended for overloading.

Aside from the LTO, police personnel including the Highway Patrol Group also participated in the said operations.

This was in response to the order made by President Rodrigo Duterte earlier this month for the LTO to strictly enforce traffic laws due to the number of recent traffic accidents which resulted to multiple fatalities.
