Local record producer, bassist dies at 40

CEBUANO record producer John Brian S. Sacro, passed away early dawn, Nov. 25 after almost five months of battling complications due to a massive stroke that caused a pontine hemorrhage and swelling in the brain. He was 40.

Sacro is the co-managing partner of Kalye Musika Recording Studio. Outside of music recording and production, Brian—as he is fondly referred to by his peers—is also remembered as one of the city’s finest bass players having been part of pop, rock and funk bands.

“I’m very lucky to see how artists have grown today compared in the last 10 years... [they] are more open to suggestions and know how to give value to their craft... I noticed that they also collaborate more, helping each other out in the music scene,” Sacro shared in an interview for SunStar Cebu Yearbook 2019.

Well-loved by the local creative community, messages of support and condolences flooded social media sites Monday. The family, said Brian’s wife, Sheila, is grateful for the support.

An official gofundme account has been set up online to help alleviate the outstanding cost of medical bills. (LQ3)
