Olsim: Memorable Adivay 2019

THIS year’s colorful Adivay is one for the books.

As major events were capped last Sunday, the 2019 Benguet Adivay proved to be an Adivay to remember—a celebration which indeed live up to its brilliant and encompassing theme: “For a HEALTHIER Benguet,” (“HEALTHIER” stands for Health, Education, Agriculture, Livelihood, Tourism, Human Resource Industry, Environment, Responsive and Resilient Governance).

Congratulations to the Provincial Government of Benguet, under the leadership of Gov. Melchor Diclas! We are definitely proud to be part of the Benguet Adivay celebration community! Adivaay! Huuu! Huuu!

As with the past Adivays which were built by the past and present leaders, the almost month-long celebration featured various events such as; agricultural and industrial fairs, forums, musical and artistic events, sports and exhibitions, and other activities which highlighted the beauty and culture of Benguet, the identity and talents of its people, and the competitive quality of its products. New additions like the float and mascot contest added vibrancy to the already packed Adivay calendar. Of course, as the host Capital town, La Trinidad won a string of major awards which include the following: Grand Champion for both the Agri-Tourism Booth and Best Landscape, Top 3 for all Music Fest events, 3rd runner up for the Mascot contest, 5th runner up for the Float, Major prizes in skills contests, Contender in various sports events, and its active role and participation in all events.

With all the excitement and smiles we saw during the last weekend, we look forward to next year’s Adivay with this year’s beautiful memory of community, culture, and camaraderie! (Adivay! Huuu! Huuu!) Thank you and congratulations to all the hardworking officials and committee workers of the celebration!

After the Adivay, the Municipality of La Trinidad has also lined up various activities for the Christmas Season! The Yuletide Celebration 2019 will commence with a Lights parade, Ecumenical service, Light and Dance Contest, and Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 2, Christmas Concerts at the Park on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, a local product fair on December 2 to 22, and a community bonfire on December 21. This year’s theme is; “Celebrating in God’s Light,” a reference to the reason for the season: Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

After the end of this year La Trinidad is geared towards preparing for two more major events: the Coffee Festival on February, and the Strawberry Festival on March. Definitely, our town is blessed to still have the opportunity to celebrate despite its many adversities and challenges!
