EDUCATION plays crucial role in the success of everyone, thus the passion to help educate her young constituents in the 5th congressional district runs in her priority list, said Representative Maria Lourdes “Marilou” Arroyo.

Arroyo helps fund the education of 464 college students in the 5th District anchored in the scholarship program of the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).

These scholars are enrolled in various state and private colleges in the Province of Negros Occidental.

Arroyo led the awarding of scholarship subsidies to an additional of 100 scholars who are schooled in the towns of Isabela, Moises Padilla, Binalbagan, Hinigaran, Kabankalan, and Bacolod City.

The awarding was held at the covered court in Isabela town on November 24, 2019.

Each scholar receives a subsidy of P7, 500 per semester.

Congresswoman Arroyo said, "I value education because this is the value that I got and enjoyed before. This is one way for our scholars to pay or pass it forward when they graduate and get the needed employment."

Arroyo, despite the physical challenge that she endures, almost has a comprehensive attendance in her committee hearings and sessions in Congress.

This means that her physical disability is not a deterrent to her work in congress and in fulfilling her duties to her constituents.

"In fact, my wheelchair is my magic carpet that always brings me to fast lane when I go to the department Secretaries to ask for projects to help my constituents in my district," she said.

Crystalen Hope Lopez, one scholar of Congresswoman Arroyo who has a golden voice, sang a song composed by Javanie D. Kasaral Jr., who are both schooled in Moises Padilla, to serenade the lawmaker and their fellow scholars.

Arroyo was fascinated by their talent and hopes to help them further in the future.
