Waminal ends Indian’s unbeaten streak

FORMER amateur standout Jess Rhey Waminal beat Indian Sunil Siwach by a unanimous decision to win the Global Boxing Organization (GBO) Asia-Pacific featherweight belt last Nov. 23 at the Davao Del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City.

Waminal, a former ALA pug, showed up in peak form and outgunned Siwach in their 12-round fight. Judge Brembot Dulalas scored it 118-109, Romy Fordaliza had it 117-110 and Marlou Neri saw it 116-111 all in favor of Waminal, who improved to 14-3-1.

Siwach dropped to 5-1-1 with two knockouts.

Meanwhile, Cebu-based pugs Anthony Sabalde and Romnick Magos lost in their respective fights in the undercard.

Sabalde (13-10, 8 KOs) suffered a fifth round stoppage in the hands of unbeaten Richard Bulacan (8-0, 6 KOs).

Magos (12-11, 7 KOs), on the other hand, lost to Jestine Tesoro (5-2, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision. (EKA)
