PDEA chief welcomes any revelation by Robredo

PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino on Tuesday, November 26, encouraged Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo to proceed with her plan to reveal her “discoveries” on the administration’s drug war.

“I am personally encouraging VP Leni Robredo to (make) her revelations on what she claims as her ‘discoveries’ on the government’s drug war,” he said in a statement.

“I believe that whatever revelations she have would help us in improving and furthering the anti-illegal drug campaign,” he added.

Robredo briefly served as co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (Icad), which Aquino currently heads.

During her stint, she met with an inter-agency delegation from the United States and asked the PDEA to furnish her with a copy of the government's list of high-value targets.

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Robredo as Icad co-chairperson on October 31, 2019, shortly after she was quoted in a report as saying that the drug war was ineffective.

She accepted the post on Novemmber 6. By November 24, she was fired.

In a press conference Monday, Robredo said her termination would not stop her determination to stop the drug-related killings, hold those responsible to account and win the war against illegal drugs.

She said she will render a report on what she has discovered in relation to the government's drug war in the next few days. (SunStar Philippines)
