FILIPINO talent is continuously evolving as technology advances. Striving to raise the banner of Filipino pride, local musicians try to up their game to be able to compete globally. With this in mind, “Beat This Philippines” gives a chance for these new breed of artists to be highlighted in the international spotlight.
“Beat This Philippines” is a concept radio show that airs every last Sunday of the month from 6 to 9 p.m. through Magic 92.3 Cebu. The show plays a wide range of genres dedicated to what most people would label as “computer music.” This includes but is not limited to hip hop, electronic dance music, indie-alternative and pop.
Artists or producers of “computer-generated music” play with tracks, loops or sounds, and create a whole new song. Some artists even mash all these elements with mainstream songs or their own original compositions. Oftentimes, these kinds of tracks are perfect for background music for computer games, smartphone applications, or even in films and advertisements.
Beat This Philippines partnered with Warner Music Philippines during its exclusive listening party for its first national music album compilation last Nov. 15 at the Trademark Bar and Lounge, Mandaue City, Cebu. The listening party highlighted music producers from the Philippine South and featured each of their tracks. Music producers from different regions gathered and were joined by local influencers as well. Featured artists during the night were Route 83, Trev, Boy Graduate, King Spade, Xuede, Sun Daewoo, Jom Ouano, Saad Rhy and DJ Roland Gars. Joey Valerde, TV promo executive of Warner Music Philippines Inc., was also present.
The top three tracks will be chosen by Warner Music to be played on its exclusive audio platforms.
Trevor Gonzalez, one of the organizers and a music producer himself, said that Beat This Philippines envisions to assemble an alliance of computer music producers in the country, and encourages music producers and artists to submit their tracks at radio@beatthisph.com.
