City Government to boost peace and order programs in 2020

THE Cagayan de Oro City Government is set to pour millions of pesos to law enforcement agencies in 2020 to boost the city's public order and safety programs.

Mayor Oscar Moreno is proposing a total of P68 million budget for public order and safety programs in 2020, including the Emergency Assistance and Command Center worth P2.3 million.

The city will also provide financial aid to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) at P36.5 million, slightly higher than the approved 2019 budget worth P35.6 million while the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has an allocation of P3 million, the same amount approved in 2019.

Meanwhile, another P650,000 is allocated for the City's Anti-Drug Abuse Program.

Also, the Cagayan de Oro Fire District will receive P9.3 million worth of financial assistance, also higher than 2019's P8.7 million.

About P15 million is also allotted for the City Jail-Male Dormitory and a separate P1.8 million for the City Jail-Female Dormitory.

The proposals were approved in principle by the committee of the whole last week.

Moreno, in his budget message, said his administration will sustain good governance practices, continue streamlining of systems to further bolster the ease of doing business, and promote teamwork and partnerships with the City Government departments and the national government.
