IMPROVED access to clean and safe water will soon be available to some communities in the towns of Pinamungajan, Carmen and Moalboal in Cebu.

During its second out-of-town regular session held in San Francisco town, Camotes Island on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) passed four separate resolutions authorizing Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to enter into a contract of agreement with a private contractor for the construction of water systems.

The measures were filed by second district PB Member Edsel Galeos, who heads the committee on public works, highways and infrastructures.

AC Rivero Development Corp. will work on the establishment of an integrated level three waterworks system in Barangays Punod, Camugao and Sibago in Pinamungajan. Level three refers to areas where each household has its own direct connection and tap stand.

These projects have a total cost of around P10.4 million and will take 160 calendar days to finish.

The same construction company will build a level two waterworks system in Barangay Tangub, Pinamungajan at P4.1 million for a period of 100 calendar days. Level two pertains to having a water supply facility composed of a source, reservoir, piped distribution network with adequate treatment facility and communal faucets.

AC Rivero will also construct the first phase of a level three water system in the northern town of Carmen for P19.8 million. It is expected to be completed within 220 calendar days.

It will also work on the improvement of the level three water system in the southern town of Moalboal at P7.3 million for a period of 120 days.

The funds for the Capitol’s water system projects are sourced from the P1.38 billion supplemental budget, which was approved last August. Of the amount, P50 million was allocated for the Provincial Government’s water supply program.

The water system project aims to provide “abundant and clean” water supply in the community through the installation of level three access to safe water, bulk water system and water supply in government facilities.

Once approved, the proposed P12 billion annual budget for 2020 will also cover the installation of level three water systems in more communities. (RTF)
