THOUGH they welcome the approved P18 per day wage adjustment in Central Visayas, a labor group in Cebu said it is just too small for an increase.
Lawyer Nora Analyn Demeterio Diego, Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) Central Visayas vice president, said they are happy that an increase of wage was approved before the end of this year but they are sad knowing that it was just P18.
"Nasagmuyo lang ta sa amount nga P18 kay mura ra man og sinsilyo. We, originally, filed some P300 plus increase. Of course, kahibaw ta nga dili gyod mahatag but 18?" Diego told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
Diego said the approved wage adjustment is far from the P30 per day wage increase recently implemented in Western Visayas.
"On the side of the management, palawman pa unta nila ang pagsabot. Ang labor cost isa ra sa factor, dili lang unta kani ang tan awon. Ngano kani ang pirmi mapiit?" she asked.
On Tuesday, November 26, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-Central Visayas approved the P18 wage adjustment.
With the approval of the P18 wage adjustment, the new rate for microbusinesses with 10 employees or more will now be P404, while for companies with less than 10 employees would now be P396.
The RTWPB also approved the new rate of househelpers in the region, which is now between P4,500 and P5,000.
But before it could be implemented, the RTWPB has to submit its decision before the National Wages Productivity Commission (NWPC).
Once the NWPC approves the new wage rates for Central Visayas, it will take affect 15 days after publication. (SunStar Cebu)
