Teen rescued from suicide attempt

A NINETEEN-year-old teenager was rescued by personnel of Police Station 8 after attempting to commit suicide at Magsaysay Flyover in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City on Tuesday morning, November 26.

Police Major Charles Gever, chief of Police Station 8, said Pio Valles of Puentebella Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, attempted to end his life by jumping off from the Magsaysay Flyover.

Gever said his personnel were conducting a visibility patrol along Magsaysay Flyover when they saw a man at the top of the flyover at about 9:45 a.m.

“Our policemen attempted to convince him to go down, but Valles was shouting at them and he attempted to jump,” he added.

The police chief said Valles, who was observed to be under the influence of alcohol, was rescued when the police took an opportunity to grab him.

Gever said Valles was suffering from depression.

The teen was brought to the police station and will be endorsed to his family in Barangay Taculing.

Meanwhile, an estimated P15,000 worth of shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride was seized by operatives of Police Station 8 at Manville, Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City on Tuesday evening.

The operation also led to the arrest of John Mark Flores, 30, of Barangay Vista Alegre.

Gever said the suspect was arrested after he sold a sachet of shabu to a police undercover at about 9 p.m.

Recovered from Flores’s possession were five sachets of shabu and the P200 marked money.

The suspect is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 8 and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
