WHO would think that we would be marking 70 years (that’s diamond!) of Korea-Philippine collaboration so soon?

But time does fly, doesn’t it?

During the Korea-Philippines Summit held last June 2018, both heads of state designated 2019 as the “Year of Mutual Exchange of the Philippines and Korea.” Such a historic milestone cannot go unnoticed, so a celebratory event was organized by the relevant institutions of both countries, to have a joint concert featuring Korean and Filipino students.

After auditions were conducted, 23 Filipino youth choir members were selected, and likewise, 20 students from Korea.

The result? Concert stage was set at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, where the “Youth Choir’s Night” unfolded to a capacity crowd! For impact and authenticity, there were two conductors: Korean Maestro Hak Yon Won and Cebuano maestro Dennis Gregory Sugarol!

Music was pleasantly varied with Broadway tunes and Korean favorites played. Also featured were the Sisters of Mary School Handbell Ensemble and the K-Arts Ensemble.

There’s truly nothing like music to bond countries. Happy 70th year, Korea and the Philippines!
