AS the 500th anniversary of the Kadaugan Sa Mactan on April 27, 2021 nears, the Lapu-Lapu City government will start a massive painting campaign of its walls and fences next month.
The campaign hopes to cover up the vandalism and will be led by the City Engineering Office and the General Services Office. The walls and fences aligning the circumferential road will be covered.
For fences owned by citizens, the City will ask permission from the owners to have them repainted. The city’s tourist spots, like the beaches in Mactan and Shrine, and famous products like the guitar and lechon will be featured in the murals. To keep the cost down, the City will partner with paint companies based in the city.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan says he hopes to kick off the event on Dec. 14, 2019 with President Rodrigo Duterte as guest. (GCM)
