ARE you interested in pursuing your masters degree abroad?

The Provincial People's Government of Fujian, People's Republic of China has opened scholarship applications for study in 2020.

It’s open to Filipino candidates who are under 35 years old and are graduates of any college degree program.

Fujian sent a team to the Capitol on Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2019, to hand-deliver a letter to Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

As sister provinces, Fujian liaison officer Huang Dai said they want to get scholars from Cebu and craft a “lifelong plan to make a legacy in post graduate education.”

“This program was introduced because in 2018, a Chinese man received an award from President Rodrigo Duterte for his contribution in building a relationship between China and the Philippines,” he said.

Huang said the man was an alumnus of Fujian Normal University (FNU) and he wanted to support Filipino students who wish to pursue their masters degree but did not have the means to do so.

FNU is a high level university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Fujian Provincial People's Government as a first-class university in the province.

Founded in 1907, FNU is one of the earliest normal universities in China.

Fujian's scholarship program will cover full tuition, accommodation, insurance and 2,000 renminbi (P15,000) in monthly allowance.

Huang said they are looking for 40 students who will be enrolled to a two-year graduate study program at FNU.

The degrees offered include Masters in Business Administration, Masters in International Business, Masters in Tourism Management and Masters in Physical Education.

“This whole program has been duly endorsed by His Excellency President Duterte for the college has been named after the president's mother, Soledad,” Huang said.

Soledad College was founded in November 2017 and was sponsored by the Friends of the Philippines Foundation.

It was established to cultivate students from the Philippines with the goal to strengthen the cooperation of higher education between the two countries.

A number of scholars hail from Luzon and Mindanao while Visayas, particularly Cebu, has only produced one,” Huang said. (SunStar Cebu)
