Chacapna: Magalong Boys vs City High coaches, Palarong Panlungsod’s corruption (part two)

Half Naked

“WE WILL conduct investigation.”

This was the concise reply of Mayor Benjie on the issue regarding coaches and players receiving only shirts and medals in every city meet or Palarong Panlungsod.

And for what cause will one wonder what the mayor’s statement can be hook up to? Consider these, all coaches are asking why only a medal and a shirt, what about snacks or food, venue and rent for some sports, coaches and trainer’s allowance, service credits, transportation allowance? Are these needs set aside and would simply mean KKB-CPP or Kataastaasan Kagalanggalangang Binayaran ng Coaches, Parents at Patrons?

Can we not allocate higher funds for the city meet from the Special Education Fund (SEF), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) fund or those legislated fund by the city council? Now the more unfortunate incident was the statement that allocated funds existed but was lost in space. Surely, this will be one among the subject of investigation by the mayor and we’ll wait for it.

If one roughly calculates the expenses for shirts and medals, it will not even reach half a million pesos even if you count precisely all the players including substitutes or reserves and sports personnel involved in recognized sports. Now what about the sports equipment? Are those worth in millions? Not at all, because majority of the equipment are personal especially those from the rich man’s sport like archery, lawn tennis and billiards. The ordinary man frowns upon if one says: “Millions were spent in buying equipment for ball games.”

While nearby provinces spent huge funds in the conduct of single provincial sport’s meet, where every players and coaches were insured of sufficient food supply from the beginning till the end; it isn’t the case for Baguio city meet. Sport administrators rely on the personal ability of coaches and trainers from skills and resources to conduct the sports meet.

For them, the city is replete with capable sports personnel to run the city meet with shirts and medal alone, so there is no need to pour funds. Then again, the result confidently spawns the holocaust of potential players. In what manner?

There is this parlance in sports called “scouting.” And is not referring to that “milking cow” organization where school principals benefit; that’s too far to connect with. But it refers to coaches’ sanctioned self-interest to compete with others in looking for some visible skillful players that will catapult them in regional and higher sport’s meet. The other players are left behind due to limited personal budgets.

So the interests of the other players shrivel and are prone to vices and other adverse activities like playing computers and gadgets. So in short: sports mission, vision, principles and objectives hang in the sky.

And back to the city’s premier public high school gymnasium, sorry to see but the courtyard was not yet restored to its original glory. So the mayor can’t make those three points shot and even free throws yet. As for the LGBTQ+ community, the gods spin their heads in the grave if they insist on playing nighttime basketballs because scientifically speaking; no one is left to populate the Earth. But no discrimination was intended in my previous writing. They can always say: “At times, science is not precise.”
