Fire hits STI-West Negros University building

A FIRE hit the four-story building of STI-West Negros University (WNU), which is located on Malaspina Street, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City Friday morning, November 29.

Fire Officer 1 Ronel Ivan Labansauan, arson investigator, said they received a call around 8:23 a.m., informing them that the back portion of STI-WNU was on fire.

Several fire trucks were dispatched to the area and the blaze was put out around 9:33 a.m.

Labansauan said the fire damaged the four-story School of Basic Education (SBE) building.

He said the fire started at the stock room in the back of Room 203, Grade 3 Apple at the second floor of the SBE building.

He said the students were immediately evacuated to a safe area, because they were also preparing for their fire drill when the incident happened.

About 30 students fainted but were attended to by the City Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) medical team.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is still conducting further investigation to determine the cause of the fire that damaged an estimated P150,000 worth of properties.

Around 1 p.m., the BFP also responded to another fire incident, this time in Purok Bayabasan, Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.

Labansauan said the fire destroyed the house of Jessica Logronio, but no one was reported injured.

He said the fire started at the bedroom of Denise Logronio.

The blaze, which damaged P10,000 worth of properties, was put out around 1:18 p.m.

Labansauan said they could not yet confirm the cause of the fire, adding they are still conducting further investigation on the incident.
