Boat runs aground in Northern Samar; 21 rescued

AT LEAST 20 crew members and their boat captain were rescued on Friday, November 29, after cargo vessel Poseidon 34 ran aground in Capul, Northern Samar.

Authorities said the boat captain, Iladio Federico Labadan, and his crew members were unharmed.

The incident happened around 2:55 p.m. Friday, November 29, when the vessel was traversing the waters off Legazpi City going to Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Upon reaching San Bernardino Strait, the boat encountered trouble with its main engine generator.

The penetration of salt water on the panel board due to bad weather condition also caused the vessel to ran aground at the shoreline of Sitio Mal-pal, Barangay San Luis in Capul town.

Capul Municipal Police Station’s responding team, led by Master Sergeant Lino Congzon under the direct supervision of Lieutenant Emmanuel Guardino, officer-in-charge, and Rogelio Borden of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, rushed to the scene to rescue the crewmen.
