Council commends Baguio hospital

THE Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) was awarded as “Best in Environmental Cleaning and Decontamination” during the Philippine Hospital Association 70th Annual National Convention eliciting commendations from the city council.

The yearly event, which was headed by the Philippine Hospitals Association (PHA) in partnership with RiteMed’s division Aseptics, aims to recognize hospitals that maintain and implement the highest standards in the prevention of hospital-acquired infections (HAI) through its Hospital Best Practices in Infection Prevention and Control Awards.

The yearly event also aims to elevate hospitals’ awareness level on the importance of infection control and prevention of healthcare-associated infections, to ensure that hospitals and other healthcare facilities are properly implementing infection prevention and control practices in their respective institutions, and to encourage hospitals to maintain the highest standards in the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections.

The commendation was a move of Councilor Arthur Allad-iw and was adopted by the entire council.

The councilor said the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center together with their officials, who are headed by Dr. Ricardo Ruñez Jr., and employees deserve to be commended because they showed professionalism and dedication in delivering health services to the public.

BGHMC also won the jingle writing contest “100-Seconds Infection Prevention and Control Jingle” on the same tilt that was held last Thursday, November 21.

The hospital does not only cater to patients from Baguio City and Cordillera but also to nearby Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley.

The hospital started as Baguio Sanatorium on February 3, 1902 and was pioneered by Dr. Eugene Stafford, who was the captain of the staff of General Arthur MacArthur in the 1900’s.

The BGHMC is now the tertiary hospital under the national government.
