YTC, Blessed Trinity, and Bel Coure’s Musical Theater Recital

INDEPENDENT theater company Young Thespians of Cebu collaborated with the Blessed Trinity Achievers’ Academy and Bel Cuore VoicePro for a performing arts youth program titled Musical Theater Arts Workshop. The workshop was designed to foster creativity in the discipline of musical theater and included the process of selecting song material, voice training, conducting in-depth character analysis, and practicing live performance and theater movement skills that best highlight the participant’s specific abilities and talents. It was a space for them to nurture and develop original, truthful and personal performances with bravura.

The final performance had two shows that took place on Nov. 30, 2019 at the Siddhartha Theater in Guang Ming Performing Arts Institute. It featured excerpts from famous Western musicals such as “Hamilton,” “A Chorus Line,” “Beetlejuice,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “La La Land,” “Wicked,” “Jekyll & Hyde,” “Chess” and “Dear Evan Hansen.” On stage as actors were Luis Moro Miguel IV, Christopher Hoiseth, Chloe Cruz, Maia Lavadia, Bettina Talaver, Mischa Banaynal, Rajah Sungahid, Jodi Galbo, Mary Angeli Gonzaga, Angeline Dapat, Victor Martin Alquiza, Glenn O’Brien Ogapong, Bea Ogapong, Vince Andrei Tabaloc, Jaienne Braveree Suralta, Hazel Unabia, Charlie Ash de Vera, Chloe Tagalog, Hannah Sophia Gonzaga and Adrienne Ng. Students, like Recca Cabanlit and Yvonne Lim, also took on roles in stage management and were mentored by overall artistic director Emman Mante (who holds a master’s degree in Theatre Arts from the University of the Philippines-Diliman). Also in the creative team of the workshop program are Alfie Mosqueda, as dance master, and Chacha Blanco, the sole owner of Bel Cuore VoicPro (with a degree in Voice Performance from the University of Santo Tomas), as the musical director and voice coach. The show was co-produced by Blessed Trinity Achievers’ Academy school director Yvette Yntig.

Hopefully this movement and others like it will spark further artistic projects for Cebuanos to be able to showcase their talents on the world stage. (TLN & PR)
