Family still cries for justice 2 years after Rotoras murder

THE University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) held a mass and a walk for justice inside the campus on Sunday, December 1, to remember the second death anniversary of former university president Dr. Ricardo Rotoras.

Wearing white shirts, the USTP community is still mourning the death of Rotoras, who was murdered outside his home exactly two years ago on Monday, December 2, 2017.

Rotoras’ elder brother Eldie said they are still hoping that one day, the case will be solved and perpetrators will be arrested and put behind bars so they can start healing.

However, the elder Rotoras said they are happy with the small development that the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) has achieved.

He said he has received a letter informing him that his brother’s mobile phone and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage which captured a vehicle during the murder were already sent to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States.

“Naa’y transmittal letter that they already sent the phone and CCTV to the FBI for forensic examination kay wala paman tay capacity for enhancement,” he said.

But, he said they still haven’t been updated on the result of the examination.

“Manawagan ko karon sa atong mga politiko to pressure those in charge nga mahatagan na unta ug resulta because we believe mao man to ang makahatag ug lead ani nga crime,” he added.

(I am calling on our officials to put pressure on those in charge that we would be given results because we believe the phone and footage will give us a lead on this crime)

Major Evan Vinas, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said the investigation is still ongoing.
