Custodio: Christmas Observations

Custodio: Christmas Observations

SO DECEMBER is finally here! The Christmas songs are playing and the decors are up too! We see different videos and pictures posted on social media of places that exude the spirit of Christmas around our city! Have you seen the Christmas display at the City Hall? Or that groovy Christmas tree in Victoria? Really, it makes me smile and want to really celebrate Christmas despite the fact that we are one less person observing the holidays this year.

But life goes on. I miss my sister every day but she would not want us endlessly mourning for her; especially not during Christmas! For all of us who have lost someone this Christmas, I know it will be tough. Things won't be the same yes, but we have to keep moving forward despite the sadness. We need to make a constant effort to be happy because they would want us to be so during this time of year!

I try to concentrate on the happier, sunnier side. It does take quite an effort some days but there are times when I can't help but smile or laugh (which is better, don't you think?) Sometimes I do so in amazement!

I've been noticing a few things whenever Christmas is fast approaching. First, everyone seems to be cheerier as compared to all the other months of the year. People are just naturally nicer during the yuletide season, right? We are more patient and understanding, in the spirit of Christmas I guess!

We grow antennas for store sales! I have friends who start taking note of the dates of annual Christmas bazaars and mall sales! The journal/planner collectors are out too, consuming cafe drinks more than usual to complete their stickers before the year(or the planners) run out!

What I really noticed the most is that towards December, people become really health conscious! I couldn't help but notice how many people actually come in for gym clearance! Yes! They come in groups of threes and fours usually and quite serious about losing weight too! The influx of gym goers usually start increasing mid-October, but boy, when November came, we had a wave of healthy buffs seeking clearance!

Yes, Christmas is indeed here! As the parties come, so does the growing need to be "healthy" because Christmas is a serious partying season! Exercising before the avalanche of parties will help "control" the cholesterol and lessen the guilt! It will make up for all the lechon, fruit cakes and booze we are going up against during company parties, organization get-togethers family reunions, class homecomings, Simbang Gabi breakfast, Noche Buena and don't forget New Year's Eve too! Whatever it takes, do it guys! Enjoy Christmas!
