FIFTY Lapu-Lapu City residents who passed various board exams in 2019 received cash incentives from the City.

Each passer was given P5,000 by Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan.

Chan also awarded P100,000 to Mikhael Glen Lataza who ranked first in the electrical engineering exam last August and P30,000 to Lawrence Dane Balili who reached the eighth spot in the naval and marine engineering exam last October.

The cash incentives’ distribution to board passers and topnotchers is in accordance with Resolution 14-2138-2017 and Ordinance 14-095-2017 passed by the City Council.

The City gave a total amount of P380,000 to board passers and topnotchers.

In Cebu, the Lapu-Lapu City Government is the only local government unit that gives incentives to its residents who passed licensure examinations. It is the City’s way of giving value and honor to them for their hard work.

Recipients were mechanical engineers, criminologists, physicians, electrical engineers, nurses, architects, pharmacists, naval architects and marine engineers. Others were nutritionist-dietitians, aviation mechanics, master electricians and teachers.

Aside from board passers and topnotchers, Chan also gave cash incentives from his personal pocket to two Lapu-Lapu City residents who recently showed good deeds—Olibert Estillone and Alfredo Baylon.

Estillone, who works as a guard, returned a bundle of bills amounting to P200,000 that was left by a passenger. He discovered the bills while inspecting a car at JPark Island Resort last Nov. 26.

Baylon, a tricycle driver, returned an expensive iPhone left by his foreigner passenger last Nov. 25. (GCM, KAL)
