Flights to Legazpi City from MCIA cancelled on Wednesday

DESPITE better weather conditions felt in Cebu Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019 as typhoon Tisoy was exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility, some flights from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to Legazpi City, Albay were cancelled.

The Legazpi City airport has yet to operate after some of its parts were damaged by Tisoy, according to Avigael Ratcliffe, junior manager of GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp.’s (GMCAC) corporate communications.

Tisoy’s strong winds shattered several glass panels of the airport in the Bicol region.

As of this writing, Cebu Pacific flights DG 6205 and DG 6204 were officially cancelled Wednesday.

GMCAC promised that it would issue a public announcement once the Legazpi City airport returns to its normal operations.

The ugly weather conditions brought about by Tisoy resulted in the cancellations of 41 flights at the MCIA last Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 2 and 3.

Affected were the flights going to El Nido, Palawan; Legazpi, Albay; Manila and Caticlan, Aklan.

Early public advisories released by airlines announcing their canceled flights last Monday and Tuesday were a big help as only a few passengers were stranded at the MCIA’s domestic terminal.

Only one international flight of a China-bound airline was cancelled last Tuesday dawn.

Ratcliffe said GMCAC’s passenger service agents gave bottled water to the stranded passengers, who were later assisted in rebooking their flights at the designated transfer desk. (FVQ, KAL)
