TYPHOON Tisoy (Kammuri) has exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and weakened into a tropical depression at 8 a.m. Thursday, December 5, said the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 10 a.m. Thursday, the center of Tisoy was located at 705 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan.

It continues to move west at 15 kilometers per hour (km/h), packing maximum winds of up to 55 km/h near the center and gusts up to 70 km/h.

Although the tropical depression no longer directly affects the country, Pagasa said heavy rains may still be experienced over most of northern Luzon, Aurora, and northern Quezon due to the combined effects of the surge of Northeast Monsoon and the tail-end of a cold front.

"This rainfall may trigger flooding and landslides in highly susceptible areas," it added.

Pagasa said gusty conditions associated with the Northeast Monsoon may also be experienced in the northern portions of northern Luzon, especially in the coastal and mountainous areas. (EZN/SunStar Philippines)
