Crop damage due to Tisoy reaches P800M

OVER P800 million worth of crops were damaged due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy (international name Kammuri), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday, December 5.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, the NDRRMC said a total of P811.519 million worth of agriculture products were damaged in the Bicol and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regions.

The NDRRMC report also listed 13 fatalities as well as 34 injured individuals.

It said a total of 8,749 houses were damaged in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas and Caraga. Of the total, 1,193 houses were totally wrecked while the others were damaged.

Some 135 schools were also damaged by the strong winds and heavy rains while 18 road sections and 21 bridges were still not passable Thursday due to the falling debris. A total of 38 road sections were affected.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said 95,385 families or 413,833 were affected by the typhoon. Of the total, 83,848 families or 364,003 persons were evacuated. (SunStar Philippines)
