Whether you’re the host or the guest, there’s always something to ponder about. Other than what food to bring for potluck or what gift to give to that persnickety Kris Kringle of yours, sometimes you can’t help but break a sweat just thinking about what outfit to wear.
Here are a few tips on how to look your best, while subtly giving off that festive touch to your whole ensemble.
Go all out
By “all out,” meaning, don’t limit your choices. What’s keeping you from giving your eyes that extra pop of color? Who’s to stop you from whipping out that fancy little black dress that shows off your assets? There’s always a time and place for everything. Parties are perfect moments to have some fun with your look. Dress to impress, while getting gifts too! Don’t be scared, just have fun with.
Seek inspiration
Inspiration can be found anywhere: The window display at your go-to boutique, your fashion forward friend or, of course, the internet. Having a second opinion can always come in handy, especially during moments when you think a certain item is only good for only one look when surprise, there’s a lot you can do with it.
Incorporate festive colors
No, this doesn’t mean dressing up as an elf (unless that’s your costume) but when you think of Christmas, don’t you imagine snow, Santa, gifts, glitter—all the works? Try to incorporate some bits to your outfit, like snowflakes, a shimmery dress and stockings. Add a Santa hat if you want to make it more obvious!
Stick to the dress code without breaking the bank
Yes, at some point you’ll find yourself at a department store buying something that will totally go well with your outfit. But before all that—especially when faced with an invitation that indicates a preferred dress code—check your closet. This here’s an idea neglected by most because of too much excitement. Another option is to borrow from family or friends (just make sure to return it) or when all else fails, rent. Hey, it’s better than buying something you’ll likely wear once and then experiencing buyer’s remorse. Besides, what’s the worst thing that could happen? You don’t win the “best dressed” award? There will be other prizes up for grabs so don’t sweat it.
