5 village personnel found positive for illegal drugs

FIVE personnel of Barangay Sta. Maria in Zamboanga City tested positive for illegal drug use after a surprise drug test conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the police.

But Los Eli Angeles, Sta. Maria village chief, withheld the names of the five personnel who were found positive pending the confirmatory test, which will be conducted in Manila.

Angeles said a total of 130 utilities, office staffs, watchmen (tanods), and nutrition workers, including barangay officials, have undergone drug test.

He said the personnel were informed that there will be a meeting at the Sta. Maria Elementary School covered court at 8 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, in preparation for the renewal of their appointment.

He ordered the closure of covered court's doors and announced the conduct of the drug test when everyone was inside.

Angeles said he is happy that no village official was found positive for illegal drug use.

He said he will give the five personnel the chance to mend their ways and "if they will still be found positive," they will be terminated from service. (SunStar Zamboanga)
