FROM deep well water pumps, thousands of residents now have a more reliable potable water supply system after the construction of centralized water stations in four coastal villages in Masantol town.
A total of P8 million was allocated by the Department of Interior and Local Government under the Salintubig or “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para sa Lahat” program which kicked off in 2018.
Some 6,487 residents from villages Balibago, Bagang, Alauli, and Sagrada are now benefitting from the said project, aside from the fire hydrants that also source water from the pipes.
Councilor Marcelo “Bajun” Lacap, Jr. underscored the advantage of the newly-constructed water stations in ensuring the steady supply of potable water to every households.
Before the project’s implementation, Lacap said most residents -- including his family -- have to fetch water from water pumps to be used for cooking, cleaning and hygiene.
“Our local water service provider is yet to deliver its services in our area since we are located on the other side of the river so most of us have to rely on water pumps donated or solicited from government or private sectors,” he said.
However, problem rises during flooding season as clean and potable water becomes limited as some pumps are submerged in waters, Lacap added.
“This will really be beneficial to our community, especially that potable water is essential for humans, and we are grateful that we were reached by this project,” he said.
